Vol. 464 No. 5

Written Answers. - Slings Sales Ban.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

86 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to ban the sale of slings in view of the recent use of such slings to hurl lead bullets at homes on the northside. [8427/96]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they are not aware of any instances involving the use of slings to hurl lead bullets at homes on the northside of Dublin. If the Deputy has any information on this matter, he should bring it to the attention of the Garda and the matter will be fully investigated.

I am satisfied that the legislative provisions of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, the Offensive Weapons Order — SI No. 66 of 1991 — made under this Act, and the Criminal Damage Act, 1991 are adequate to deal with this type of activity.
