Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Sligo Halting Site.

Declan Bree

Question:

111 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for the Environment the approval, if any, sought by Sligo Corporation for the construction of a new halting site at Ash Lane, Sligo; when the corporation first submitted the proposals for the site to his Department; the reason for the delay in issuing approval; if his attention has been drawn to the growing concern in Sligo regarding the delay in commencing work on this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8453/96]

There has been no undue delay by my Department in dealing with this case. Initial proposals for an eight bay travellers halting site at Ash Lane, Sligo were received from Sligo Corporation on 22 September 1995. These did not include costings and the corporation were requested on 9 November 1995 to furnish these. Costings were received in the Department on 21 February 1996 and, following agreement on amendments of the proposals between the Department and the corporation's technical staff, the corporation were requested, on 22 March 1996, to submit revised cost estimates. These are awaited in the Department.
