Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Debtors' Prison Redevelopment.

Joe Costello

Question:

123 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for the Environment when an application will be finalised for funding under the loan and rental subsidy scheme and the local urban and rural development sub-programme for the Debtors' Prison, Green Street, Dublin 7; the funding that will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8665/96]

Approval issued in July 1993 to the making of a loan of £385,540 by Dublin Corporation to the Green Street Housing Trust under the rental subsidy scheme in respect of the provision of ten residential units at the Debtors' Prison. The Corporation recently sought additional loan funding of £301,719 to enable the original ten units to be completed and to provide two extra units. Some information on this proposal is still outstanding; when this is received, the application will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

On 16 April 1996, a conservation grant of £75,000 under the urban and village renewal sub-programme was allocated to the Green Street Trust by my Department. This grant, which must be matched by the recipients, is in respect of refurbishment works to the Debtors' Prison.
