Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kildare Bus Transport.

Seán Power

Question:

136 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by secondary school students on bus routes (details supplied) in County Kildare; and the action, if any, she intends to take to alleviate this problem. [8551/96]

While my Department has not received any correspondence relating to the pupils in question, I understand that the difficulties to which the Deputy refers are the travelling times, schedules and carrying capacity of the vehicle used on this route.

Having investigated the matter with Bus Éireann, I am satisfied that the level of service available to these pupils is within my Department's guidelines, and that the legal carrying capacity of the vehicle used is not being exceeded.

Accordingly, I do not propose to alter the current transport arrangements.
