Vol. 464 No. 6

Written Answers. - Border Deployment Rations.

Seán Power

Question:

235 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence the total cost to date of providing rations for troops deployed to the Border during the BSE crisis; and whether it would be more cost effective in terms of both personnel and food to replace the rations with subsistence payments. [8698/96]

The estimated additional cost to date of providing rations for troops deployed to the Border during the BSE crisis is £2,100. There has been considerable investment in recent years in the provision of catering facilities for Defence Forces personnel in the Border area. It would not be more cost effective in terms of personnel and food to replace rations with subsistence payments.
