Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - CAT Scanner Provision.

James McDaid

Question:

19 Dr. McDaid asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the provision of a CAT scan machine for Letterkenny General Hospital, County Donegal. [8446/96]

, Limerick East): I have been informed by the North Western Health Board that tenders for the purchase of a CAT scanner for Letterkenny General Hospital were opened in recent weeks and are currently being analysed with the involvement of the board's radiologists and purchasing manager.

The provision of funds for the construction of facilities to accommodate the CAT scanner is under detailed discussion at present between officials of my Department and the North-Western Health Board within the context of the capital resources available to my Department and I expect to be able to make a final decision on this matter in the near future.
