Vol. 464 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Service Expenditure.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

53 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health the reason there was such a variation in per capita spending on health services between the various health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7609/96]

, Limerick East): As I have pointed out in answer to this question before, the per capita spending on health services in different health board areas is an unweighted average figure. It does not take account of a number of demographic and geographical factors, such as the population density or age structure in each area. The difference in the cost of health care in each region is also influenced by other factors such as access to higher specialities and the present stage of development of the services.
