Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Lynch — the need to ensure that history remains compulsory for junior certificate students; (2) Deputy Brendan Smith — the need to approve the proposal by Cavan County Council to provide a new branch library at Cootehill; (3) Deputy Cullen — public concern regarding the proposed location of the new sewage treatment plant at Tramore, County Waterford, and the insistence of the Department of the Environment on the location despite deep concern expressed by the Department of the Marine; (4) Deputy Tom Kitt — the action which has been taken by the Minister for Enterprise and Employment in relation to the industrial dispute at An Post; (5) Deputy Ferris — the need to include the condition known as post polio syndrome or late effects of polio in the long-term illness scheme administered by the Department of Health and the health boards; (6) Deputy Deasy — the need to progress the permanent extension which has been approved for St. Declan's Community College, Kilmacthomas, County Waterford, in view of the anticipated major additional intake of students in September 1996; (7) Deputy Broughan — the need to re-examine the provision of resources for orthodontic dental care on the north side of Dublin; (8) Deputy de Valera — the present position regarding departmental and EU funding to deal with the sewage problem in Ballyvaughen, County Clare, and when work to resolve the problem is likely to commence; (9) Deputy Costello — the urgent need for a settlement of the dispute in An Post in relation to secretarial posts in view of the fact that industrial action is due to begin on 4 May 1996; (10) Deputy Ring — the need to resolve the school transport problem at Newport, County Mayo, by maintaining the current level of service to Westport; (11) Deputy O'Rourke — the need to intervene in the ongoing dispute at Airmotive which may result in the shutdown this week of the entire facility with a consequent loss of more than 400 jobs; (12) Deputy Harney — the action which the Minister for Enterprise and Employment will take to ensure that the industrial dispute at Airmotive is resolved so that the threat of further job losses can be ended; (13) Deputy Keogh — the action which the Minister for Education will take to bring a resolution of the dispute at Trinity College, Dublin, in view of the threat to examinations and (14) Deputies Killeen and Andrews — the need to address the problems encountered by licensed restaurateurs and others as a result of the ongoing dispute between environmental health officers and the Department of Health.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies de Valera, Tom Kitt, O'Rourke and Harney.
