Vol. 464 No. 8

Written Answers. - Employment Equality Agency.

Máirín Quill

Question:

20 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform whether the Employment Equality Agency in its intended expanded role will be permitted to recruit from outside the Civil Service. [8862/96]

Staffing arrangements for the new Equality Authority which will take on an expanded role to that of the Employment Equality Agency are not yet finalised. I envisage that the Authority should have access to all appropriate expertise and where this involves open recruitment from outside the Civil Service this can be accommodated.

Existing arrangements for the staffing of the agency already facilitate appointments from outside the Civil Service. The current chief executive of the agency was recruited following an open competition by the Civil Service Commission with the involvement of the agency.
