Vol. 464 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Cork School.

Paul Bradford

Question:

44 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education when a grant was originally sanctioned to provide indoor toilets at a school (details supplied) in County Cork; the reason for the delay in commencing the work; when the work will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8926/96]

My Department sanctioned grant-aid towards the upgrading of sanitary facilities, replacement of doors, windows and provision of corridor screens, on 21 July 1994, at the school referred to by the Deputy. The work was to be handled by the Cork Office of the Office of Public Works.

Because of pressure of work in the Office of Public Works it was agreed with the school management that replacement of windows, doors and corridor screens would proceed in advance of the work on the sanitary facilities. These works are nearing completion and I understand the Office of Public Works will be in a position shortly to initiate planning for upgrading the sanitary facilities. At this stage, I cannot give an accurate timescale for completion of these works.
