Vol. 464 No. 8

Written Answers. - Army Checkpoints.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

61 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Justice the purpose of the Army at checkpoints around Dublin Airport; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8976/96]

The organisation and composition of vehicle checkpoints are matters for operational decision by the Garda authorities having regard to their assessment needs. I am informed by the Garda authorities that some of the checkpoints being operated in the vicinity of Dublin Airport for security purposes involve the presence of military personnel in aid to the civil power. The Garda authorities inform me that the operation of these checkpoints is being kept under continuing review.
