Vol. 465 No. 1

Written Answers. - Fire Safety.

Ivor Callely

Question:

123 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the number of fire safety notices served under the Fire Safety Act, 1981 in 1995; the issues, if any, which are a source of concern to the fire authority arising from inadequacies in this Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9285/96]

Information on the number of fire safety notices served under the Fire Services, Act 1981 in 1995 is not yet available. However, information submitted by the fire authorities to my Department indicates that 52 such notices were served in 1993 and 45 in 1994.

The operation of the Act is kept under review and, where appropriate, matters arising are noted for consideration in the context of proposals for amending legislation.
