Vol. 465 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin 13 School.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

135 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education in the case of a school (details supplied) in Dublin 13 if she will immediately sanction the retention of a teacher due to be lost to the school, based on the 31 September 1995 enrolment numbers in view of the fact that the transfer of this teacher will mean only one infant class for the September 1996-97 school year in spite of the fact that there are already 67 applications for admission to the junior infant class at this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9029/96]

It is open to the board of management of the school in question to apply to my Department for provisional sanction for an additional post on developing school grounds. This application may be made if the enrolment of the school on 30 September 1996 is projected to exceed the enrolment on 30 September 1995 by a minimum of 30 pupils. In this way, a post which would otherwise be suppressed at the school may in fact continue.

However, should the projected increase in enrolment fail to materialise in September next, the provisional sanction for the post would have to be withdrawn.
