Vol. 465 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dún Laoghaire (Dublin) Regional Technical College.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

141 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if she will give a commitment that the proposed regional technical college in Dún Laoghaire, County Dublin will be totally accessible to disabled people. [9127/96]

In my press statement of 26 July 1995, regarding the setting up of a new regional technical college in Dún Laoghaire, I emphasised that special attention would be given in the planning of the college to the provision of resources to facilitate and support the education of third level students with special needs.

Consultations with relevant and interested parties such as the National Rehabilitation Board has already taken place and their recommendations have been conveyed to the design team for incorporation in the plans for the new college.

It is intended that the new regional technical college, when built, will serve as a model for other third level institutions with regard to the provision of the facilities which are necessary for persons with special access needs.
