Vol. 465 No. 1

Written Answers. - Replacement Industry for Tipperary.

Noel Davern

Question:

186 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the progress, if any, that has been made to find a replacement industry for Tipperary town following the closure of Mass Mutual; the number of interested parties that have contacted the IDA in relation to the ex-Mass Mutual plant; whether any interested party has visited the plant: and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9218/96]

The attraction of overseas industry is a matter for day to day operations of IDA Ireland. However, I have been informed that IDA Ireland is actively looking for a replacement industry for Tipperary town following the closure of Mass Mutual. To date, three potential investors have expressed an interest and have visited the vacant plant. IDA will continue to promote the premises through its network of offices, particularly in Europe and the United States, until a suitable replacement project has been secured.
