Vol. 465 No. 1

Written Answers. - Payment of Registrars.

Michael Ring

Question:

68 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health if he will increase the payments for people dealing with births, deaths and marriages registrations in view of the fact that their payments have not been increased for many years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9068/96]

Limerick East): The administration of the registration system for births, deaths and marriages is primarily a matter for An t-Árd Chláraitheoir (Registrar-General) of Births, Deaths and Marriages and for local registrars who operate under his general direction. The fees currently payable to registrars appointed under the various Registration Acts are set out in S.I. No. 278 of 1987. The whole area of registration law, including the arrangements for the administration of the system on a national basis is currently under review. The general issue raised by the Deputy is being addressed within the context of that review.
