Vol. 465 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Mary Wallace

Question:

85 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Education the support, if any, available to children with disabilities to travel to non-special schools outside of normal bus services. [10574/96]

Where children with disabilities cannot be accommodated on the normal network of school transport, my Department may allow the payment of a medical grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements to attend both special and non-special schools.

The amount payable is based on the distance from the child's home to the school or to the pick-up point, as appropriate.

Payment of the full amount is based on maximum attendance, and the grant is paid at the end of each school year.
