Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Two Teacher Schools.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

106 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will allow a school (details supplied) in County Sligo to retain its second teacher in view of the fact that enrolment will increase to 26 in September 1996 and the remaining teacher will find it difficult to discharge her duties satisfactorily if she has to teach 26 pupils over eight classes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11237/96]

I recently announced very favourable news for two teacher schools. Two teacher schools, which were due to lose posts at the end of the current school year because of declining enrolments, will retain their status as two teacher schools for the 1996-97 school year. The school to which the Deputy refers is one of the schools benefiting from my decision. Accordingly, it will retain its two teachers for the 1996-97 school year.
