Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Remedial Mathematics Teacher.

Tony Gregory

Question:

108 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education when she intends to sanction the post of a remedial mathematics teacher to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 10 to enable the teacher currently doing the work to undertake a remedial mathematics course. [11257/96]

The school in question already has the full-time services of a remedial teacher. I understand that, as part of a local arrangement, an assistant teacher at the school has also been deployed as a remedial mathematics teacher.

The national programme of training in remedial education for teachers of first and second level pupils is available only to teachers in permanent posts, who are fully probated and employed as teachers in officially designated remedial posts. As the teacher in question is not employed in such a capacity, it would not be possible for her to attend the course. I regret it is not possible at present to make a further remedial teacher available to this school.
