19 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Defence the progress, if any, that has been made in considering the proposals to release a number of Defence Forces personnel to assist in a hospital project in Angola; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11095/96]
I recently approved of a proposal to release up to 15 military personnel to take part in a hospital rehabilitation programme in Angola. In that regard arrangements are now being made by the military authorities to select suitable volunteers for the project. It is envisaged that the personnel will be made available for a period of three months but there may be a requirement to replace some of the personnel at the end of the three months period.
