Vol. 466 No. 2

Written Answers. - Pilot Employment Programme for People with Disabilities.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

64 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for Health if consideration has been given to extending the pilot programme for the employment of people with disabilities; if his attention has been drawn to the part played in the local community and Irish economy by people with disabilities; if he has satisfied himself with the progress of the pilot programme to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11180/96]

Limerick East): I am aware of the important role played by people with disabilities in the local community and the economy and I am most anxious to ensure that this continues. The pilot programme for the employment of people with disabilities is one of a number of measures in place to help achieve this objective.

The programme is overseen by an interdepartmental monitoring committee which is carrying out a review. The review, which will be completed later this year, will examine the achievement of targets set for projects in the existing programme and will include recommendations about a new programme.
