Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Pupil Suspension.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

204 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the suspension of a pupil (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if she will give the result of her investigation into the matter following correspondence from the parents of the child in question. [11710/96]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. The selection and enrolment of pupils in second-level schools is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In cases such as this, my Department's inspectorate endeavours, by a process of consultation with school management, to have the pupil in question placed in a school in his locality. These efforts, which by their nature can take some time, are ongoing in this case and every effort is being made to find an appropriate placement. I shall advise the Deputy of any developments.
