Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Coroners' Certificates.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

226 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to allow coroners to issue a certificate of fact of death rather than cause of death in order that dependants and relatives do not suffer financial loss; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11533/96]

The legislation which sets out, inter alia, the duties of a coroner is the Coroners Act, 1962. As I have already indicated in this House, I could not undertake to indicate, by way of reply to parliamentary questions, what specific legislative proposals I might have in a particular area. Any proposals I may have in relation to the subject matter in question will be announced in the ordinary way in due course.
