Vol. 466 No. 4

Written Answers. - Reskilling Unemployed Teachers.

Micheál Martin

Question:

258 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment whether he has consulted FÁS with a view to providing specific courses for unemployed teachers to enable them to engage in reskilling. [11650/96]

I have not consulted with FÁS on this specific issue. FÁS already provides a broad range of measures aimed at assisting the unemployed and, in particular, the long-term unemployed, including a broad range of training courses. Such courses are open to persons who have become unemployed, regardless of the profession which they previously held.

While FÁS does not have any plans to provide courses aimed specifically at unemployed teachers, I understand FÁS will continue to use its best endeavours to assist such persons in so far as they may need or seek a career change. Unemployed teachers should contact their local FÁS office, which will be glad to assist them in any way possible.
