Question:81 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance whether he will respond to the demand by PAYE workers to reduce central taxation at least in proportion to local charges being levied by local authorities. [11546/96]
Written Answers. - Tax Reduction Demand.
I would refer the Deputy to the Government's policy agreement A Government of Renewal and to the provision introduced in the Finance Act, 1995 granting a new tax allowance in respect of service charges paid in full and on time. The allowance was granted in recognition of the fact that local charges are regarded by some persons as constituting double taxation.
