95 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the amount of transport subsidies paid to Ireland since accession to the European Community on 1 January 1973, in respect of his Department, and the heads, subheads, Votes and Appropriations in Aid in relation thereto and also in respect of the agencies under the aegis of his Department; the contribution, if any, which these subsidies have made to the mobility of people; the effects, if any, they have had on services; the economic advantage of these subsidies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department was established in January 1993. Since that time, neither the Department nor its agencies have received transport subsidies from the European Union. My Department and its agencies are in receipt of refunds from EU on an ongoing basis in respect of attendance by my officials at certain EU meetings abroad.

Treacy asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the amount of transport subsidies paid to Ireland since accession to the European Community on 1 January 1973, in respect of his Department, and the heads, subheads, Votes and Appropriations in Aid in relation thereto and also in respect of the agencies under the aegis of his Department; the contribution, if any, which these subsidies have made to the mobility of people; the effects, if any, they have had on services; the economic advantage of these subsidies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There have been no transport subsidies as specified in the Deputy's question paid to either the Department of Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht or its agencies since the establishment of this Department in January 1993.
