John Ellis

Question:

109 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has to allocate funding to Sligo County Council to re-open a halting site at Ballyfree, Sligo, in view of the fact that it was stated during a High Court case to be unsuitable for use as a halting site. [11874/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 108 and 109 together.

The selection and provision of halting sites for travellers is a matter for the local authority, in this instance Sligo County Council. I have approved funding for proposals from Sligo County Council to provide a halting site at Ballyfree. The actual provision of the site is now a matter for the council.
