Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Prisoner Transfer.

Tony Gregory

Question:

117 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice whether her Department has received an application from a person (details supplied) for a transfer to a prison in Ireland; and when a decision will be made in respect of this case. [11715/96]

The person referred to in the question has declared his interest in transferring to a prison in this jurisdiction. However, a formal application from the United Kingdom authorities has yet to be received. I understand that the UK authorities, who normally convey such formal applications on behalf of prisoners in their jurisdiction, have indicated that they expect to be in a position to transmit the application within a matter of weeks.
