Vol. 466 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Mildred Fox

Question:

119 Ms M. Fox asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, she has to appoint extra gardaí to the Dunlavin area of County Wicklow to combat increasing crime levels; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11879/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas.

I understand Dunlavin is policed as part of the community policing initiative in operation in the Baltinglass District and, as part of this, one Garda is stationed in Dunlavin. The whole area is also covered by mobile patrols. The crime figures for 1995 show a drop in crime levels from 1994.
The Garda authorities are satisfied with the level of policing in the area. However, the situation is being monitored on a continual basis to ensure that an effective Garda service to the area is maintained.
