Question:25 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the relationship between the Independent Radio and Television Commission and Teilifís na Gaeilge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9042/96]
Written Answers. - Relationship between Broadcasting Bodies.
There is no formal or statutory relationship between the Independent Radio and Television Commission and Teilifís na Gaeilge. Section 4 of the Radio and Television Act, 1988 stipulates that:
it shall be the function of the Independent Radio and Television Commission to arrange in accordance with the provisions of this Act, for the provision of sound broadcasting services (including a national sound broadcasting service) and one television programme service additional to any broadcasting services provided by Radio Telefís Éireann pursuant to the Broadcasting Authority Acts, 1960 to 1979.
The Deputy will appreciate that the construction or operation of Teilifís na Gaeilge would not come within this statutory remit.
