Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - Nursing Posts.

Michael Ring

Question:

77 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health the reason an application for additional nursing posts for a hospital (details supplied) in County Mayo has not been granted in view of the urgency of the situation. [12306/96]

Limerick East): The Western Health Board is responsible for the management of services and deployment of staff at the hospital referred to by the Deputy. Any proposed increase in staffing levels must be considered in the context of the level of resources available and the Western Health Board's priorities for the development of services. Funds were allocated in 1995 for the recruitment of four non-nursing staff at the hospital concerned. In addition, the board approved two nursing posts, to be filled by internal redeployment. In 1996, the Western Health Board has received funding for a number of new posts in long-stay homes for the elderly and expects to make a decision shortly as to where these posts will be located.
