Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - Arts Plan Funding.

Ivor Callely

Question:

85 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the identified moneys required to implement the Arts Plan, 1995 to 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12207/96]

The Deputy will by now be aware that I have agreed with the Minister for Finance that the funding requirements set out in the Arts Plan could be phased realistically over the five year period 1995-1999 rather than the three years originally proposed, and that An Chomhairle Ealaíon, at its meetings of 18 January 1996, agreed to recorder its priorities over five years beginning in 1995.

The level of funding that will be available to An Chomhairle for the years 1997-1999 will be decided in the context of the budgetary situation pertaining in each of those years. It is my objective, however, to achieve by 1999 the funding level of £26.1 million envisaged by An Chomhairle for the final year of the plan.
