Vol. 466 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Museum.

Ivor Callely

Question:

89 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the long-term plans, if any, he has for the National Museum building, Kildare Street, Dublin 2; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12211/96]

The National Museum and the National Library buildings in Kildare Street form an important and unique purpose built national cultural complex.

The Deputy will be aware that significant additional accommodation for the National Museum is being provided at Collins Barracks and is due to open to the public in 1997. The Kildare Street building will, however, continue to be used by the National Museum to accommodate the antiquities division which includes its large archaeological collections.
