Mr. Moynihan
asked the
Minister for the Environment
the total amount of money allocated by his Department in respect of water and sewerage schemes in 1996; the amount allocated to date in 1996; the balance that remains to be allocated; the name of each scheme sanctioned by him from 1 January 1996 to 31 May 1996; the status of each scheme; the number of houses or population which each will serve; when each application was made to his Department; the number of tenders received for each scheme; when these tenders were received; the total cost of each scheme; the local contribution, if any, required; the amount of EU, Structural, Cohesion or other funding involved; the total Exchequer funding involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The total estimates provision for water supply and sewerage schemes for the current year is £121.8 million, inclusive of £6 million for group water schemes. My Department does not make annual allocations to local authorities but makes payments on foot of certified expenditure on approved schemes. To date, payments of £23.8 million have been made.
I propose to circulate in the Official Report tables setting out the additional information sought for individual schemes, in so far as it is available in the Department.
