Vol. 467 No. 5

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grant.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

87 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education whether she will approve a higher education grant for a person (details supplied) in Cork in respect of a masters degree. [13741/96]

It is understood from Cork County Council, the body statutorily entrusted with administering the higher education grants scheme in this case, that the student in question falls to be considered under the terms of the 1992 higher education grants scheme. It was a requirement of the 1992 higher education grants scheme that for grant purposes a candidate must have reached a certain academic level in the leaving certificate examination of that year. Cork County Council has informed my Department that the student referred to by the Deputy did not meet such requirements in her leaving certificate and is therefore ineligible for a grant.
