Vol. 467 No. 5

Written Answers. - Business-Computer Course.

Liam Aylward

Question:

88 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made to have approval sanctioned for the continuation of a third-level business/computer course by Carlow Regional Technical College at Seville Lodge Regional Campus, Kilkenny where 80 students successfully completed their first year course in the 1995/1996 academic year and several hundred students have applied for the 1996/1997 academic year; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13750/96]

The courses in question were established in an outreach centre in Kilkenny by Carlow regional technical college without authority or authorisation from my Department. Following correspondence between my Department and the director of Carlow regional technical college officials from my Department visited the college last week to clarify a number of issues. My officials have briefed me on their findings. I will take decisions shortly with particular regard to the interests of the students.
