Vol. 467 No. 5

Written Answers. - Equality Arrears Legal Costs.

Joe Walsh

Question:

99 Mr. J. Walsh asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amounts claimed by or paid to solicitors in respect of work carried out in relation to the payment of equality arrears; and the names of such solicitors. [13685/96]

The most recent information available to me as to the total value of bills for costs submitted is £4.14 million. The total amount paid for costs to date is £1.899 million in respect of bills for costs amounting to £3.736 million.

The question as to the extent to which the amounts paid to individual solicitors and the names of such solicitors can be divulged is under consideration and legal advice is being sought.
