Vol. 467 No. 5

Written Answers. - Milk Quotas.

Donal Moynihan

Question:

122 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of gallons of milk available to his Department for the two further stages of the temporary leasing scheme in 1996. [13700/96]

James Leonard

Question:

123 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of small milk producers who are failing to obtain the temporary leasing amounts they anticipated and who face the possibility of substantial super levy penalties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13708/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 122 and 123 together.

When I announced the first stage of the temporary leasing scheme in April, I indicated that I would review the situation for the second and third stages based on the outcome of the first stage. That review has now been completed by the Milk Quota Review Group. I will shortly be making an announcement on the details of the second and third stages following consideration of the group's recommendations.

It is not possible at this stage to predict the quantity of quota that will become available for allocation in the second and third stages of this year's temporary leasing scheme.
