Vol. 467 No. 5

Written Answers. - Killarney (Kerry) Plant.

John O'Leary

Question:

34 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current position regarding the provision of a suitable industry in the large building formerly occupied by Pretty Polly in Killarney, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13476/96]

The attraction of industry to particular locations in the country is a matter for the day to day administration of the development agencies and is not one in which I have a direct function.

I am informed by IDA Ireland, however, that the facility formerly owned by Pretty Polly, Killarney is being marketed to overseas investors. A brochure profiling the plant and a new Killarney brochure were recently launched and have been distributed to IDA Ireland's network of offices overseas. They will assist its efforts to promote the area for further investment. A number of potential investors have already visited the Pretty Polly facility and IDA's marketing is intensive and ongoing. To date in 1996, IDA Ireland have secured two expansion projects and one new project for the Killarney area. Together these projects will create approximately 330 jobs.

IDA Ireland will continue to actively promote Killarney within the south-west region to overseas investors.
