Vol. 468 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rathmines (Dublin) Traffic Wardens.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

138 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice whether one full-time traffic warden and three part-time wardens are considered adequate to police the traffic and parking problems of an area as extensive as Rathmines, Dublin 6; and whether she will consider increasing the level of traffic wardens in the Dublin area in view of the increase in the number of roads in Dublin opting for residential disc parking. [14790/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that in addition to one full-time traffic warden and three part-time traffic wardens assigned to Rathmines Garda Station there are also two full-time and two part-time traffic wardens attached to Terenure Garda Station which is attached to the Rathmines District. In addition, gardaí issue on-the-spot tickets.

A total of 11,784 on-the-spot tickets were issued in the Rathmines district in 1995 and the Garda authorities are satisfied at the level of enforcement in the district.

The Garda authorities have informed me that they have no plans to increase the number of traffic wardens in Dublin.
