Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs: Motion.

Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht (Mr. M. Higgins)

I move:

That the Orders of Reference of the Select Committee on Finance and General Affairs be amended by the insertion of the following paragraph after paragraph (18):

(18A) The Select Committee shall, in advance of each budget to be presented by the Minister for Finance, invite submissions in writing from interested parties and arising from such submissions, consider and report to the Dáil on such matters of public policy and other matters relevant to the formulation of that budget as it thinks appropriate.

I move amendment No. 1:

To add the following to the motion: "Provided that nothing contained herein shall prejudice the right of individuals to meet with the Minister for Finance with a view to making pre-budget submissions directly to him in accordance with longstanding practice".
