Vol. 468 No. 2

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Mary Wallace

Question:

109 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment his views on waste reduction, waste recycling to reuse, waste to energy versus landfill; the cost advantages of selecting options other than landfill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14861/96]

Irish waste management policy respects the EU waste hierarchy in according precedence, where feasible, to waste prevention-reduction, followed in that order by reuse, recycling-recovery and safe disposal. As regards comparative costs of different waste management options, I refer to the reply to Question No. 121 of 15 May 1996.
