Vol. 468 No. 2

Written Answers. - Bornacoola (Leitrim) School.

John Ellis

Question:

113 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education whether she will sanction the retention of a third teacher in respect of Bornacoola national school, County Leitrim in view of the fact that the school has the requisite number of pupils. [14765/96]

The staffing of a national school for a particular year is determined by the enrolment of the school on 30 September of the previous year.

The enrolment of Bornacoola national school on 30 September 1995 was 88 pupils. This enrolment warrants a staffing of a principal and two assistant teachers for the 1996-97 school year. In addition, the school has the services of a shared remedial teacher.

An enrolment of 91 would have been required on 30 September 1995 in order to retain the third assistant's post. In the circumstances, the post has been suppressed since 30 June 1996.
