149 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement on the additional funding which he has provided in each of the years 1995 and 1996 for dedicated hospice beds; the location of these beds; and whether these beds are designated for motor neurone, advanced cancer to HIV/AIDS patients. [15123/96]

Limerick East): St. Francis Hospice, Raheny received funding in 1995 and 1996 for the provision of 12 beds. This Hospice received £300,000 in 1995 and £650,000 in 1996.

Hospice services have traditionally been associated with providing care and support to patients with advanced cancer. However, this role has been widened and now includes for the provisions of care for patients suffering from other conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease and HIV/AIDS.
