Question:

153 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for Health the current position regarding the move to make dentures available to patients under 65 years who have a medical card; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15201/96]

Limerick East): As from 1 June 1996 priority full denture treatment is now available under the dental treatment services scheme for all edentulous adults with medical card entitlement.

Routine dental treatment which includes denture treatment for persons who retain some natural teeth is now available under the scheme to persons with medical card entitlement in the following age groups: 16-34 years of age (inclusive); 65 years and over.

In accordance with the dental health action plan routine dental treatment will be extended at a later stage under the scheme to other age groups on a phased basis.
