Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Paediatric Clinic.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

197 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will give favourable consideration to the need for a paediatric outpatient clinic in the District Hospital in Athlone, County Westmeath to be serviced by Portuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, County Galway; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this clinic has been held at a local hotel for the past 18 months; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the establishment of this paediatric clinic has facilitated many children from Athlone and surrounding areas and has proved most beneficial; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15609/96]

Limerick East): I have been informed by the Midland Health Board that it currently provides an outpatient paediatric clinic at the District Hospital Athlone, and that 72 new patients and 306 return patients were seen there in 1995.

I have asked the Portiuncula Hospital authorities for a report on that hospital's involvement in the provision of services as outlined by the Deputy. On receipt of this report, I will provide further information to the Deputy.
