Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Provision of Medicines.

Noel Ahern

Question:

207 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Health the medical prescriptions and requisites which should be supplied free of charge to a parent of a Down's Syndrome child on a long-term illness booklet; and the reason for differences of interpretation between different chemists in regard to the medicines that should be supplied. [15706/96]

Limerick-East): The long-term illness scheme entitles persons with Down's Syndrome to drugs and medicines free of charge, which are prescribed by a medical practitioner in respect of the particular condition. The medicines which may be supplied free of charge are determined by the relevant health board and the patient presents the health board authorisation to the community of retail pharmacists who dispenses the approved medication.
