Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Detoxification Facilities.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

215 Ms. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Health the reason there are no residential drug detoxification facilities for under 18 year olds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15813/96]

Limerick East): The provision of drug treatment services is a matter for the health boards in the first instance. There are currently 20 inpatient specialised detoxification beds in the Dublin area, ten in Beaumont Hospital and ten to be increased later this year to 15, in Cherry Orchard Hospital. Inpatient detoxification facilities are also provided in a number of health board psychiatric hospitals. Inpatient detoxification beds are not specifically designated to adults or to minors but are allocated on the basis of medical need.
