Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Mary Wallace

Question:

228 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the efforts, if any, which have been made to ensure that section 65 grants for voluntary organisations are awarded in a timely and transparent manner; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15893/96]

Limerick East): Decisions on the agencies to be awarded section 65 grants are, in the first instance, a matter for the health boards taking into account the local needs and priorities for services. My Department provides monthly cash flows, including section 65 grants, to the health boards which enable the boards to meet their due debts on time. In addition, officials of my Department have regular meetings with health board management to ensure that expenditure and payments are in accordance with the approved determination. If the Deputy wishes to provide me with details of any particular difficulties of which she has become aware, I will have the matter taken up with the health boards.
