Vol. 468 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nursing Appointments.

Paul McGrath

Question:

247 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Health the number of nursing appointments to be made by the Midland Health Board at St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar and the Lough Sheever Centre, Mullingar, County Westmeath over the next few weeks; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15991/96]

Limerick East): The Midland Health Board is responsible for the management of services and deployment of staff at St. Loman's Psychiatric Hospital, Mullingar, and the Louth Sheever Centre, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Current personnel policy for the health services provides that health agencies which are managing resources within their allocations may fill non-consultant posts, including nursing vacancies, without recourse to the Department.

The Midland Health Board has appointed seven staff nurses to permanent positions at St. Loman's Psychiatric Hospital since April 1995, and three further appointments are currently being processed. Some 12 permanent staff nurse appointments have been made at the Lough Sheever Centre, Mullingar, since a panel was created in October 1994. No further appointments are planned.
